OK, Will, your voice takes this to an entirely different stratosphere. June…?! Just stop it. Do you have a theatre background? Anyway, all I’m tasting is straight up Will Boucher here. You’ve come into your own now. Who needs a skin suit when you can strip down to your sticky, red, pulsating brilliance??
The voice was an experiment this time! I’m over the moon that you enjoyed it! No I don’t have a theater background, I’ve composed a lot of experimental vocal works so I’ve worked with a lot of singers and picked up a few things that came back to me when I hit record lol
there’s a thing I love about your writing will, which is that it can’t be consumed at a glance. I can’t flick through it the minute it pops up, it’s pay attention or perish. I have to unpack your words methodically, and when they click into place and the poetry of what you’re describing comes alive, it is deeply satisfying and makes me feel like i’m in a very cool club.
Bold Will! Dense and complex. Glad you're taking chances with what's obviously yet another phenomenal short. I'm saving the voiceover for later in the week but-- keep going! This is amazing!
Can't offer much insight, apart from the fact that you're getting better (and bolder) and better in characterisation and-- I think-- social commentary. I'm just excited to see what comes next, man. Very much.
That's funny, Will! It's almost certainly the other way round! And I gotta say, I can't wait to see what you turn out for the other thing... that's gonna be insane, I'm sure!
Will, I just finished "Little Hammers" and I enjoyed all the pieces very much. "April with the Umbrella..." was my favorite, but I was also haunted by "June with Ski Mask." I'd love to know where you got your inspiration for that incredible study. You also have two wonderful short pieces, almost tone poems, "January with the pajamas.....," and "October with the Snorkel." You also taught me many new vocabulary words. You have an impressive vocabulary, but you might want to consider the number of non-standard words in a single piece. I'm dogged and relentless, but some readers might give up. Wish you lived in Northern California. I'd love to sit, have some coffee, and talk about you and writing.
the last paragraph is so electric! I thought the chronological+object+setting format was a thoroughly enjoyable structure. did anything specific inspire this piece? :)
Thanks, Molly! I was reading a lot about loneliness and got this idea for an unstable character who has these rituals he thinks brings people together through shared awkwardness. The structure was an attempt to tell a story through non-linear events
So I went back again and listened this time because I wanted to hear how you read the :funnyscrunchyface:, but you left it unpronounced. So now I'm sad.
This is just a delicious word/image feast tour de force! Story is not lacking, but I love your work especially for the wild tumble of it and the audacious direction. So satisfying!
Oh lordy, who had more fun there? Me reading that or you writing it? Bloody delightful and no mistake.
Not coincidentally you cornered the market for post-punk band and album names for the foreseeable future:
Nascent Nixonian Jowls
Twist Like Meerkats
Burlesque Pasties Over Both Nipples
Slather On Lipstick Ledger-Style
Transmuting My Blood Into Pixels
And many other groups and key releases from the underground scene.
Haha! My intent was to stamp my influence onto the post-punk circuit...it is what gets me out of bed in the morning.

Well, PLEASE promise us you'll do more voiceovers because it's working! And YES your music background, that's right!!
I'll keep the voiceovers coming. It was a fun experience! I usually read what I write out loud all the time so this seemed like a natural expansion.

Thank you so much for that, EJ! That sounds like a weird sort of club.
Wonderful, Will!
Gripping and deep and beautifully written.
There were so many good lines, but this one right at the beginning really stood out and it totally pulled me in:
“ She's the type of GenZ'er whose asshole puckers the second she's ten feet from a wall outlet.”
Haha!! I’m glad that one reeled you in for the rest of the madness. Always appreciate you reading, Michael!
Whoa - Fantastic writing and reading Will.
Every sentence is so satisfying. Going in for seconds now.
Thanks so much, Jon! Means a lot coming from you, I'm a huge fan of your Ditch Rocket series

Thanks, Ken! Always appreciate your feedback and your insight :)

I appreciate that! I always look forwards to your work and learn a lot from it

Haha I just turned my attention to that one!
I’ll read it with gusto when it rolls off the presses!

damn! Thanks for the kind words, clara! Glad it resonated :)
Very fun, enjoyed listening to these at breakneck speed (particularly April and November). Devilish wordplay
Thanks for the kind words, J!

HAHA You don't know how long I thought about that. I had no idea what to do with that so I just punted.
Obviously it’s pronounced “gnyerk”
I won’t let you down next time
